Achieving successful resolutions, goals, intentions … requires careful long -term planning, short- term monitoring, a positive mind-set … and mindful action, not just talk.
CEOs and those in management positions in every organization around the globe do this annually as part of their job description to keep up with change. Last years’ success is the past…it is time to focus on the future.
What is their secret?
Many millionaires became successful because they learned to say “no”. They have the discipline to turn down the good, so that they can pursue (and achieve) the “great”. We can all do that.

The #1 resolution for 2018 is to be healthier -so lets use that as our example this week. But what does that mean and how do you get there?
As, the leader of your household, what is your job description for the long-term emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being of each member to ensure success?
How is long term viewed? A car manufacturer must plan ahead for energy efficient, driverless cars & will go out of business if they refuse to change. Likewise, what you eat & do today determines the quality of your life in 30 years. We can choose instant gratification for everything that we want now, or we can plan for the long-term to avoid the illnesses created by the poor habits we practice today.
3 Key Steps for 2018 Wellness Resolutions
- Identify the positive events and the negative events of the past year relating to your wellness resolution. Then look at how to improve the solutions and decrease the problems in 2018.
- Review your values for adapting healthy habits in the household which will last a lifetime based on updating your knowledge of what science now knows impacts our mental, physical & emotional well-being
- Brainstorm with everyone concerned in the household, then prioritize (get out the markers & flip chart – make it fun and creative)
- Reframe what is pure convenience for you and what is necessary for nourishment. Balance: the needs – with the pleasures
- Evaluate the Feng Shui of your kitchen for what provides nourishing energy
- The counter tops are prime real estate when it comes to health. Our brains are wired to be triggered by the senses.
- Do you suddenly crave chocolate when you ‘see’ a box of chocolates on the counter top?
- Do you feel comfort when you walk in and ‘smell’ the aromas of homemade soup on the stove top or baked apples in the oven?
- Do you feel enjoyment when you ‘taste’ a pleasing arrangement of food on the plate with an assortment of colors and textures represented by the vegetables in season? A pretty tablecloth, and perhaps some flowers or aromatic fresh herbs in a vase in the center of the table can add to the ambiance.
- Do you use deep Japanese medium style bowls which allow proper portion size?
- Do you keep the extra food on the stove, not on the table, where you will eat more?
- Are the week-end treats ‘out of sight’ to avoid temptation?
- Are you connected with each other in conversation about the day, or are you glued to the wired energy of the TV or your digital devices?
- Do you SLOW DOWN & understand that there is nothing more important time wise than mealtimes … sharing together?
- PLAN, PLAN, PLAN … by maintaining wellness as your priority, your time can be scheduled accordingly. Like the millionaires…they were disciplined to say NO to what is just good and focus on the goal for what results in the best long term achievement.
- Use a calendar with large squares to plan the specifics of your meals for one month
- Record ONE: protein, vegetable, grain, starch, fresh herb, fruit for day…starch includes; bread, pasta, pizza, potatoes, starchy vegetables -corn. Balance is achieved by avoiding more that one of each category. Craving occurs when the body is lacking what it needs
- Google, or ask grocer for what local, fresh vegetables/fruits are in season that month. Something flown in has been picked 30 days earlier -no time to ripen to provide the necessary nutrients
- Value yourself –know what you are putting in your body. A car made with quality parts lasts much longer, doesn’t require constant, expensive repair jobs and is safer. Long-term, the costs are cheaper.
- Educate yourself about how big companies use additives- sugary corn syrup and excessive sodium to create addictions, the same as tobacco, in prepared sauces in jars & packaged foods
- Are you taking back control from big business & advertisers who tell you what to eat, where to eat, and what is added to the food you eat? Are you buying FRESH, not packaged or jars of prepared foods?
Paradoxically, 21st Century Wellness is at the Extremes
Starvation & Malnutrition exists in Underdeveloped Countries
Obesity & Imbalanced Nutrition exists in Wealthy Countries
